Geography for teaching in intermediate qualified schools

We see teacher training as a central social task. Our goal is to provide you with the best possible education and training, which is closely coordinated between subject-specific science, subject-specific didactics, educational science and practical school studies.

The teacher training programme at Realschulen has a modular structure. It consists of 16 modules (including human geography, physical geography, regional geography, didactics of geography and a large field exercise).

Structure and contentHide

The study programme lasts 7 semesters and is divided into modules in which a total of 210-213 ECTS (§ 22 (2) LPO I) must be completed by the time of the First State Examination.

60 credit points (LP) must be earned in the subject area of science and 12 LP in the subject area of didactics; in addition, 15 LP must be earned in the "free area".

The written homework can be done in geography (10 LP).

In addition to geography, you choose a second subject (German, English, economics) and attend courses in subject didactics and educational sciences. In the subject-specific part of the programme, students acquire key subject-specific and methodological qualifications as well as knowledge of general geography and regional geography. In subject didactics you acquire the competence to design, plan, organise, reflect and evaluate teaching and learning processes in geography lessons in a targeted manner and according to scientific findings.

Teaching and service delivery

The content is not only acquired in lectures, but also applied and deepened in associated seminars and exercises as well as in field exercises (individual days and a large field exercise lasting at least 10 days).

The final examination is the first state examination, the grade of which is made up of the module examinations (40 %) and the first teaching examination (60 %). You will complete a wide variety of coursework (see module handbook, study and examination regulations appendix).
